How do I get two dogs to stop fighting?

I have a male golden retriever and we just got a black lab from the shelter. They are about the same age and they are the same gender. The lab LOVES toys and to fetch. But everytime we throw the ball to him the golden trys to chase it too. that makes the lab growl and then the golden does the dominance type fighting back. They do fine when they are without food or toys but i ofcourse still dont like the fighting. I dont want to have to seperate them whenever they want to play with a toy cause the lab doesnt like to b left alone.
Any ideas?? please help

You are asking them to compete over toys and it isn't in their nature to share (for these two guys anyway). If this is the only problem then you just have to train one to sit and stay while the other fetches and then take turns. You can also get "their" toys and only allow them to have their own - give one a green ball and one a yellow ball and dont mix them up. Then you can throw the toys in opposite directions so there isn't a fight.

Hope this helps spark some ideas for you!
