How do you get a deaf puppy to quit biting?

Is she teathing or is it a stage of is it just something that we need to get her out of? She is two and a half months old and all she seems to like to do is bit.

Puppy biting is very normal. There are several reasons they bite, the first is that it helps the baby teeth fall out, the second is because dogs explore everything with their mouths. Just like we use our eyesite and touch, dogs put everything in their mouths.

Your puppy being deaf will not hinder her ability to learn. First enroll in a puppy kindergarten class - these are invaluable.

When she bites you can tell her no (using sign language) and ignore her. Give her something else to bite on. Typically puppies will bite at you when you sit on the floor and play, just get up and walk away. Be very black and white with consequences and she will learn.

Different breeds also tend to mouth more than others so it may take a bit longer if she is a retriever for example, but she will outgrow this as long as you teach her its inappropriate.

Best of luck!
