How do you get dogs to quit being so aggressive when it comes to feeding them?

We feed them in separate bowls but they trade food bowls and one gets mad. How do you get them to the point where they aren't aggressive when someone is around them while they are eating?

As the others have said, each dog needs his or her own space for eating. Some dogs can be fine in opposite corners of the same room, others need to be crated or fed in different rooms. I don't allow "trading" of bowls. Take up all the bowls when they are finished and have 10-15 minutes of separated quiet time before allowing the dogs to interact again. Feeding in close proximity only encourages competition, which can lead to fights. It's less stressful for everyone to separate the dogs, prepare meals, feed, clean up, then release the dogs.

I prefer to feed my dogs in their crates out of food toys. I always recommend feeding dogs out of food toys like Kongs, Squirrel Dudes, etc. but I make sure to separate them either in crates (if crate trained) or in different rooms to avoid any resource guarding/aggression issues.

I do not allow dogs to mix bowls. Each dog has their own bowl and they eat out of it. I stand between them or crate them and when they are done the bowl goes away. If they are upset at you standing there, just drop in some extra goodies once in a while but for the most part ignore them. Messing with them only makes it worse a lot of times.

Best of luck.
