My dog grabs & chews pens and optical glasses for attention. ?

My dogs name is Jet. He is one 1 year & 5 months old. He is a loveable male cocker spaniel poodle and does real good on commands such as sit, stay down, etc. Except he does grab and chew pens and reading glasses just to get my attention. I firmly belive that if I give him no attention he may stop doing it but I do not want ink on our carpet and pay for new glasses!

Any advise is welcome.

Ignoring probably wouldn't be good at this time ;) You are right, if you ignore him grabbing things, he may go off and chew them. I'm not sure I would reward it either though. When my dogs get something they should have, I call them to me, take it and say thank you and smile. I want them to bring me the items rather than chewing for attention.

The caveat though is to really work on what the problem is, taking these items. Either the dog is jumping on a table or its on the floor. If its on the floor, you should pick them up :) If the dog is on the table I would start to work on that behavior. If the dog walks up to the table like he is going to take something, say leave it in a firm voice, call him over and ask him to lay down. Feel free to even say eh eh or no, whatever word your dog is familiar with. You can even set your dog up and pretend like you aren't watching. If he does leave it, then you praise him or reward him with something.

Hope this helps!
