My friend has a lab he is getting rid of and her name is doodles, it is two years old, my question is can i change it's name to a another one i like or will it just confuse it. ?

I actually recommend changing it. Often times when you adopt a new dog you have no idea what the history is with the name, how the owner used it. I would change it and make a positive association to it.

Also I would enroll in a basic obedience class, even if neither of you need it, it helps you to build a good working bond!
