Need advice on how to train my dog to do his business when out for walks ?

Our 6 month old collie only does his business in our back garden. He does nothing when he's out on walks or even on other people's gardens, unless he's absolutely desperate. Even when we praise him on the odd occasion that he does do it he stil continues to do his business only in our garden. He goes for a 30 minute walk daily but as soon as he gets back he has a very long wee in our garden.

You have to out wait him. Just make the back garden off limits for a week. It will be frustrating and take time, but when he goes, dont say anything, when he finishes, then give him a small treat and praise him.

This is the schedule I would use

Take him out, wait 5 minutes. Stay in one area, dont walk. If he doesn't go bring him in and put him in a crate unless you are sure he wont have an accident in the house. Wait 20 minutes or so and take him back out.

Good luck, you can win this battle!
