Our 4 year old dog has started urinating in the house even after a lot of exercise and outside time. What should we do?

Even though we thought she was previously house trained she has started going in the house all of the time. I have been able to stop her from going in certain spots but then she will just move to a new one. It seems like she is holding it so that she can come inside and pee on the floor! If I leave her outside for very long, then she ends up going on the porch. Please help!

Thats really frustrating when a dog who was previously house trained starts having accidents in the house. The biggest thing is going to be to teach her to be house trained as though she were a puppy again. Here are some hopefully helpful hints.

1. Watch her - dont let her have free access to anything without you paying attention to her. Use baby gates fi you have to or use a leash.

2. Crate her - if you can't watch her, crate her or put her outside.

3. Reward the good behavior - praise her or give her a cheerio when she potties outside! Go outside with her and make sure she goes.

4. Teach her to ring a bell - that way you know you are getting the signal (there is a video of this at www.dogtrainersearch.com)

5. Check her for a UTI - sometimes this is the culprit and its never a bad idea to rule it out!
