Problem with dog urinating in my bed ?

I have to keep my bedroom door closed at all times because my dog (a year and a half old beagle) keeps urinating in my bed. Right where I sleep. It's a king size bed that I share with my wife and he always chooses to pee in the spot right where I lay down on my side of the bed. I try to keep our door closed, but unfortunately sometimes my kids will go in there and forget to close the door. I'm tired of getting a nasty surprise by laying down in a wet spot. I'm tired of cleaning my mattress. I need help in order to understand and to stop this behavior.

A few bits of information:
- The dog does not sleep in the bed with us. He doesn't even sleep in the same room. He sleeps downstairs in his crate.
- He is otherwise housebroken. He was crate trained and hasn't had any "accidents" for many months outside of this bed peeing problem.
- He will not do it when someone is in the bedroom with him; only when he sneaks in alone.

I'm at my wit's end. I need to know WHY he is doing this and HOW

Wow that is frustrating!! Its hard to say "why" he is doing this. It would be nice if dogs could just tell us! But when I dog wets somewhere, often times they repeat in that area because of the smell. Even if you clean it, I bet he can still smell it.

I would block him from going in there, its the simplest solution to your problem. Use a baby gate or just shut the door.

The other thing you could do is train him not to go on the bed. You can get motion alarms so if he jumps up it will sound loudly and you can go in and remove him from the room.

Make sure you are doing training with your dog, it will help build his obedience and your relationship. I like the Nothing in life is free methodology. It really does help!
